Energy transformation is one of the most important challenges for Built Environment for the coming years. Simultaneously, the knowledge required is hard to transfer to students in this sector. Energy transformation requires numbers, shown in Joules, Kilowatts, and Oil Equivalents, based on their production facilities, as energy and heat are not easy to gather and store. There are decisions that must be taken into account by citizens, governments, and other stakeholders such as electricity companies, utilizing the network on varying scales. The demand for energy can be fun, and interesting, but is often not considered that way by students. This topic is often too abstract, or too judgmental.
The Watts2Win Energy Game challenges students ton change the facilities and reduce CO2 emissions within an existing neighbourhood. The game provides opportunities to increase complexity of the energy issues, and visualizes the choices they make. The game allows this topic to become more complex with every step, and focuses on increased knowledge rather than shear decision making. Through the in-game years, students gather knowledge and insight on technical and social aspects. In a group of 4 teams, the players will move in their own pace, being stimulated to learn from each other.
